Great Musicians Among Us

I listen a lot. I play a bit, a lot. Meaning, I play for myself. I used to play in public way way back - in the school band - for 5 or more years. That's where it ended.

Enough of me. I know a lot about music and often like to share. I'm talking about all kinds of so-called "genres". Rock, jazz, classical, world, whatever. I'm talking about people who play, sing, write, do. And are lucky enough to be recorded so that I have heard them or of them. Or otherwise, they are performers - but, I don't seem to get out that much anymore.

I'm not really talking about electronically produced stuff - although a lot of that can be great too. Problem - who is the "Great Musician\Musicians"? The person fronting - the band - the producer, so named - hard to know sometimes.

No prejudices here.

I'm just going to try occasionally naming one, two, three, ten - here and there ... and maybe giving some background - explanation .... now or later. Maybe something I'm listening to ...

And, whoever (whomever), wishes is free to follow up.

Make up your own mind. Maybe find a discovery - or rediscovery - or disagree ... my aim - to make it simple.

And maybe open up a new world. Or not.

As Duke Ellington (a great Great) is alleged to have said .... There are only two kinds of music.
Know the answer? Next Time.

Here is the first "Great". Roger McGuinn. As an instrumentalist, singer, composer, organizer... contributor to Music .... several so-called genres.

How's that for a start?
